SPECIAL AWARDS
Our next awards are very special and unique to our club. They are based on the big and little 5 animals/insects of South Africa because of our very unique and beautiful surroundings. These awards are given for exceptional achievement and or attitude on and off the track, based on the special abilities of the African wildlife they are named after.
The Rhino Award - The rider that is as tough as a Rhino, sometimes they have the hardest luck, but those little legs and that little person never give up persevering all the way, always getting up again showing pure determination to the end – win or lose
Luhumo Shabalala
The Lion Award – That rider who has the Heart of a Lion, shows leadership qualities and characteristics towards his/her pack – the Cradle BMX Club. Perseverance and Grit to the end again and again. Shows Love, Kindness, and Respect for fellow riders, and is always willing to teach them a thing a two on or off the track.
Matthew Fulton
The Buffalo Award – Just like the Cape Buffalo, this rider is unbelievably strong (they say 4 x times stronger than an ox) with the courage to burn. They are notorious for their attitudes, bravery, and fearlessness – they are never going down without a fight.
Sinjin Caromba
Hyena Award - Of all the wild animals, the hyena seems to have a bad rap that won’t go away. Sure, they lack in grace and charisma, but there is much more to hyenas than meets the eye. Hyenas are witty, courageous, smart animals, and have no apologies to make, and while the recipient of this award is sometimes misunderstood, much like the Hyena, Cradle just wouldn’t be the same without him.
Courage Tshuma
The Dung Beetle Award – To the ancient Egyptians the Dung Beetle was the most sacred insect, they believed that the Dung Beetle was responsible for moving the sun across the sky during the day and then setting it at the night. The value that these two people bring to not only our club but to BMX as a whole, is unsurpassed - especially this year. Like the humble Dung Beetle, these 2 people performed vital functions for a positive purpose, with their heads down and their bottoms up – they got SH!T done.
Thomas Mellon & Donavan Mienie
Leopard Award - Those die-hard individuals are always ready to assist quietly in the foreground and background knowing everyone’s business because it is their business to know and without them, the event would just not be possible. This person works tirelessly week after week during the year.
Lorette Robertson
Tortoise Award – These two people move around quietly, however, they always stick their necks out in support of BMX and the Cradle Club. Always digging deep and making a difference for all at the Cradle club and BMX.
Sheila Snelling
Warthog Award - Those individuals are always being sent from pillar to post whilst parents and adults are operating well or not so well under the pressure of the day.
Chelsey Fulton
Our next awards are for our most improved riders from the beginning of the year to now. These riders have improved drastically throughout the year pushing themselves harder each time they race.

Top Novice award for 2022 - Eddie Gower – for outstanding achievement for the highest club points scored by a Novice rider.
Our Top Expert award for 2022 - Zack Fourie - for outstanding achievement for the highest club points scored by an Expert rider.
2022 Club Champion.
This award is based on outstanding achievement all around for the year by a Cradle Club member representing the club in all events – being top in their class for Club Races, Gauteng Races, SA Cup, and SA Championships. Although this is not a prerequisite for this award, this rider did us proud by representing the club at World Championships and although this year didn’t go quite as planned – there is always next year, and we are still very proud that he is a member of our Club.
An outstanding rider who always puts his heart and soul into BMX, his hard work, determination, and dedication has paid off so far for his racing career and I’m sure there will be more superb racing from this little man, saying this I would like to call up Matthew Fulton to collect his prize for the Cradle BMX Club Champion 2023.
Then to all our members and volunteers, we are honoured to have each of you in our club and that you choose to join and trust Cradle as your home base for BMX. We would like to recognize each and every one of you for your contribution and participation to the sport of BMX. Please accept our small token of appreciation. In no particular order.
